Benjamin Davis, 77, a native of Eutawville, South Carolina, and the son of the late Pompie Davis, Sr. and Lessie Davis, passed away on November 28, 2025, at his home in Columbia, South Carolina.
After growing up and receiving his education in Orangeburg County, Mr. Davis moved to New York City, where he spent over four decades. During his time in New York, he married Shirley (Rufus) Davis and raised a family, worked as a machinist at the historic Domino Sugar Factory in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and cultivated a strong community of beloved coworkers, neighbors, and friends.
Upon retirement, he returned to his hometown of Eutawville. These later years were spent reconnecting with his first loves: the Davis family, fishing, agriculture, and the picturesque nature and waters of South Carolina.
Mr. Davis is preceded in death by three brothers: Pompie Davis, Jr., Moses Davis, Sr., and Harry Lee Davis, Sr.; and three sisters Minnie Mae Davis, Janie Bell Ware, and Stacey Mae Burch.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Davis; his son, Benjamin Michael (Gail Marie) Davis; and his daughter, Crystal Nicole Davis; as well as his sisters, Lois Davis (Willie) Blanding and Elizabeth (Willie) Myers, and his brother, John Lee (the late Marie) Davis, all of Eutawville, SC; and a loving host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A funeral service in his honor will be held on December 13, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Middleton Mortuary Chapel, located at 810 Dawson St. in Eutawville, SC. An open viewing at 10:00 AM will precede the service, with an internment and homegoing reception to follow in the afternoon.
