Born on April 29, 1933, in Eutawville, South Carolina, Carolyn was the
cherished daughter of the late Otway Cash and Ethel (Glover) Cash. At the
blessed age of 92, she transitioned from this earthly life to eternal rest,
meeting her Heavenly Father on the evening of December 20th, 2025, at
the Lowcountry Community Hospice House in Summerville, South
Carolina.
Carolyn embraced her faith at an early age and remained a devoted
member of the Springhill Missionary Baptist Church in Eutaw Springs
throughout her life. Despite her busy schedule, she always made time for
the Lord. Carolyn attended school in the Eutawville public school system
during her youth, where she laid the foundation for her lifelong
commitment to community.
On April 10, 1954, Carolyn married Jeffery James, Jr. The Lord blessed
their union for 71 wonderful years, during which they raised seven children.
A strong work ethic was built within Carolyn pertaining to raising her
growing family and her commitment to the community. As a role model, a
mother’s work is never done, but her legacy lives forever through the lives
that she has touched. She didn’t just build a career, but she built a
foundation for our entire family with her bare hands and a tireless heart.
Affectionately known as “Mom” to so many Carolyn was always there for
anyone in need, serving as a neighborhood advisor, counselor, and
advocate. Her ability to maintain peace and provide guidance in areas that
required “a village” for others was a testament to her loving and
kindhearted nature.
In addition to her unwavering dedication to her family, Carolyn possessed
a rare talent—an extraordinary green thumb. Her passion for growing and
nurturing plants was truly astonishing, and her flourishing gardens brought
immense joy to everyone who had the privilege of witnessing them. She had
a magical way with her garden which was a testament to her love and care.
Carolyn also had a few favorite pastimes that she cherished dearly. She
loved watching the Today Show with Al Roker and Craig Melvin, finding
delight in their lively conversations and infectious energy. Shopping and
traveling were also among her favorite activities, allowing her to explore
new places and indulge in new experiences. And, of course, her culinary
skills were second to none. Carolyn's cooking brought people together,
creating moments of joy and togetherness around the dining table.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her two brothers, Roosevelt Cash and
Oscar Cash; sisters-in-law, Cynthia Cash and Bessie Cash; brothers-in-law,
John Gadson and Sam Simmons; and sons-in-law, Ralph Apa and James
Edward Prim.
She leaves behind a legacy and everlasting memory for her beloved family
and friends. Her husband of 71 years, Jeffery Jr., is deeply saddened by her
loss. Carolyn is survived by her two loving sisters, Henrietta Gadson and
Shirley Simmons. Carolyn's pride and joy were her seven amazing children:
Carol (James-Earl), Elizabeth, Judy (Anthony Eugene), Anthony, Annette,
Alice (Terrance), and Gerard (Monique). She was also the proud
grandmother of 19 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. A host
of nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives, friends, and countless others who
were touched by her kindness and generosity join us in mourning her
passing.
As we remember Carolyn, let us celebrate the incredible legacy she has left
behind and the lives she has touched. Her spirit will live on in our hearts
forever.
