Today, we celebrate and give tribute to the loving memories of Ms. Carrie Ferguson Gadson-Wright. She entered eternal rest on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at her daughter’s home in Cross, SC.
Carrie was born in Eutawville, SC, to the late Saul and Nora Ferguson, she was educated in the Orangeburg County School System. At 15-years-old, Carrie began working for the Corner’s family as a cook and caretaker for many years. At a young age Carrie entered holy matrimony to the late Elick Gadson. To this union 4 children were born. Carrie later met and married the late Sam (Sonny) Wright Jr, a sharecropper with 14 children, with this union 3 children were born.
Carrie accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Unity Missionary Baptist Church, in Eutawville SC. As a faithful and dedicated member, Carrie served God and her church family in many organizations throughout her years until her health declined.
In 1965, Sister Carrie F. Gadson-Wright became a committed member of Eutawville Chapter No. 324 PHA, Rite of Adoption for the State of SC and Jurisdiction. On February 25, 2017, she was awarded the 50+ Years Membership Appreciation. Carrie was God-Fearing, a hard worker, a loving wife, an understanding mother, and an awesome teacher to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
On May 11, 2024, God’s GRACE allowed her to celebrate 100 years of life, before he called her home!
Preceding her in death are her loving husbands, Elick Gadson and Sam (Sonny) Wright Jr., 2 Sisters Earline Dingle and Ada Manigo, 1 Brother Joseph Ferguson, and her beloved children: John Henry Gadson, Rose Marie Middleton, Jackie, Harry, Richard, Henry, and George Wright, Jesse W. Gadson Walker, and Mary Lee Walley.
Carrie leaves to cherish her fond memories: her sister Catherine Gidron of Orangeburg, SC; Brother Saul Ferguson of Columbia SC, Sister-in-Law, Dorothy Gadson of Charleston SC, her loving children: Paul (Shirley) Gadson of Orangeburg, SC, Elizabeth Gadson Halls of Cross, SC, Elick (Louise) Gadson of Queens, NY, Debra Macon of Raleigh, NC, Nathaniel (Barbara) Wright of Greensboro, NC, Johnnie (Vernell) Wright Sr. of Vance, SC, John A. (Victoria) Wright of Oklahoma City, OK, Peter (Mimie)Wright, and Paul (Onetha) Wright all of Eutawville, SC, Benjamin (Joyce)Wright of Holly Hill, SC, Joseph (Charlotte) Wright Sr. of Ladson, SC.
Carrie was blessed to have many Grandchildren, Great- Grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
