Charles Earvin Ashby, affectionately known as “KENDU” is the son of the late Elizabeth Elouise and Ernest Ashby. He was born on August 26, 1963, in Brooklyn, NY. On January 21, 2024, he departed this life, after touching and encountering many people.
Charles was educated in the New York City Public Schools system. He attended P.S. 189 Elementary School, Brooklyn NY, I.S. 210 Middle School in Brooklyn NY, and Eastern District High School for a few years, but later gained his GED. Charles loved building things and being creative. His hobby of construction work stemmed from working with a dear friend-like a brother- Joe in Brooklyn, NY. Charles loved his family and enjoyed celebrating and cooking throughout his life. Although he resided in South Carolina, Charles was a huge fan of anything “New York”, especially Brooklyn.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents: Ernest Ashby and Elizabeth (Ravenell) Ashby; siblings: Marvin Ravenell, Patricia Barnes-Schwendig, Teddy Ashby, William Ashby, and Tracy Ashby.
Charles leaves behind five beautiful children to cherish his everlasting memories: Tameka Legette of Kingston, NY, Rasheen Brown of Brooklyn, NY, I’Ayana Sanders and O’Quandre Sanders of Orangeburg, SC, and Teaonia Thomas of Norway, SC. He also leaves behind five grandkids: John Jones, Jayden Brown, Janelle Brown, India Sanders-Bethea, and Jaelle Legette.
He leaves his siblings: Brenda Ashby, Timothy Ashby, Donald Ashby, and Wendy Ashby; his siblings-in laws: George, Stafford, Margie, and Liz. He leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews. A special friend of Charles is also left behind, April Sanders.
