“I have fought a good a fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” – II Timothy 4:7
On March 22, 2026, Esther “Sinclair” Bowman Dickson, a devoted servant of Almighty God, entered into eternal rest at her residence in Cross, South Carolina. Sinclair was born on April 9, 1939, in Orangeburg, South Carolina, the second child of Victoria Huger and Elijah Bowman. She was lovingly raised in Berkeley County by her grandmother and uncle in a nurturing Christian home.
At an early age, Esther accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at Unity Baptist Church, where her faith journey began and remained a guiding force throughout her life. She received her education in the Berkeley County School System and graduated from Central High School in 1957. Following graduation, she faithfully cared for her grandmother for nine years until her passing—a testament to her compassionate and selfless spirit.
In 1966, Esther relocated to New York City, where she became a dedicated member of Second Tabernacle Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor F. Haskell. During her time there, she served faithfully as a member of the Trustee Board, Chairperson of Women’s Day, and an active participant in the Gospel Choir, the Jehovah Gospel Singers, and several other choirs.
Professionally, she worked as a Shipping Manager at VO Toys in Harristown, New Jersey. In 2005, Esther returned home to Cross, South Carolina, where she reunited with her Unity Baptist Church family. She continued her faithful service as a member of the Senior Choir, Christmas Cantata Choir, and Mass Choir. She was deeply involved in Missionary Ministry, serving as Vice President, and also dedicated over ten years to the Kitchen Committee.
She was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, Nathaniel Dickson. Esther was known for her warm spirit, kind heart, and genuine love for others. She loved everyone, and in return, was loved by all who knew her. Her greatest joy was her family, whom she cherished deeply. Her life was a beautiful reflection of faith, service, and love. She will be truly missed and forever remembered by all who had the blessing of knowing her.
She was preceded in death by her daughters, Barbara Ann Bowman, Shirley Huger, and Desdemona B. Gibbs; her granddaughter, Tisha Huger; and her grandson, Rashon Battle.
She leaves to honor and cherish her precious memories: her devoted husband, Nathaniel Dickson of the home; her sons, Stanley (Shirley Mae) Bowman of Columbia, SC, and Elijah Bowman of Cross, SC; her daughter, Blondell (Willie) Smith of Oglethorpe, GA; and her stepdaughter, Kisha Dickson of Brooklyn, NY. A legacy of love through her grandchildren: Charity Y. Lowery of Florence, SC; Shaneal L. Grant of Santee, SC; Stanita Bowman of Summerton, SC; Stanley D. Bowman of Sumter, SC; Bishalia S. Bowman of Columbia, SC; Jordan Bowman of Texas; Keylexius Battle of Oglethorpe, GA; and Jornesha Gibbs of Wilson, NC. Her brothers, Saul (Louise) Ferguson of Columbia, SC, and Timothy (Richardine) Ferguson of Cross, SC; her sisters, Willie Mae Dingle of Cross, SC, Evangelist Evan Page of Wendell, NC; and her adopted sister, Evangelist Cora Doctor-Brown of Cornwall, NY. A very special devoted niece and caregiver, Owillinda Ferguson of Cross, SC. And a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends who will forever
cherish her memory.
