Jasper Ravenell Obituary

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.- Revelation 21:4

Today we celebrate the life and legacy of Deacon Jasper Ravenell, who was born February 28, 1961.  Jasper was the third of ten children born to Ms. Annie Lee Ravenell in Berkeley County, South Carolina.

Jasper completed his education in the Berkeley County School System and graduated from Cross High School in 1980.  He was later employed at Santee Cooper for thirty-three years until his retirement in May 2017.

In July 1986, Jasper married his high school sweetheart, Juliette and from that union two children were born.

Jasper was renowned for his cooking. He successfully owned and operated his catering service ; J-N-J Soul Food, with his wife, Juliette. He believed that feeding family and friends soothed the soul. He was especially famous for his boiled peanuts and his special BBQ pork.  He enjoyed giving and supporting his community with his charming wit and smile.  He was also a prolific gardener and farmer.  During planting season, he was always tilling the soil.  He recognized that “God gave the soil to produce the nourishment for our bodies, in turn the impetus for humans was to share the bounty with others.”

Jasper was involved in many activities with his church. He served as a Landscape Specialist and really enjoyed beautifying his surroundings.  He always said, “it’s not what you do, it’s how you do it and your purpose for doing it.”   He served in the Usher Department, the Male Chorus, was President of the Men’s Department, and assisted with the Youth Department.

After an extended illness, on November 1, 2025 surrounded by his loving family and friends, Jasper fell asleep in death.  The family knows that this is but a short time, before Christ Jesus, the reigning King, will do away with death and they will see him again, as found in 1 Corinthians 15:26-28.

Jasper was preceded in death by his brother, Christopher Ravenell.  He leaves behind to cherish his memories: His devoted wife, Juliette Ravenell; daughter, Saleenia M. Greene of Summerville, SC;  Son, Darren L. Ravenell of Vance, SC and a Grandson raised in the home, Dequan M. Greene, of Eutawville, SC; Mother, Annie Lee Ravenell of Cross, SC; Mother–in-law, Jacquelyn Bradley (Sam) of Pineville, SC; Six Grandchildren: Saleyia M.
