John Henry Chancy, the son of the late Deacon Charlie Chancy Sr. and Deaconess Annie Mae Jamison Chancy, was born on November 27, 1961, in Eutawville, SC. He was called to be with his heavenly father on August 1, 2024, at Ralph H. Johnson Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
John grew up in Eutawville, SC aka “Possum Town” where he was baptized and became a member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church. John Henry graduated from Roberts High in 1980. During his tenure at Roberts High, he was a member of the Student Government Association and Tigers Band with his first best friend and playmate; Alicia Snell.
John excelled very well in school and was a mastermind with numbers and English and Language Arts. John had many scholarship offers from numerous colleges and universities. However, he saw fit to become a military police officer for the United States Army in 1981. In 1980, he was united in holy matrimony with Debra Polite and to this union, four children were born. After serving his country, he became a landscaper in Maryland.
John was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Bryan Chancy, and his sister, Minnie (Jervie) Bryant.
He leaves to cherish: one son, Jonathan (Samantha) Polite of Aberdeen, MD; 4 daughters, Stephanie (Troy) Edwards and Tamacia Chancy of Aberdeen, MD, Terri Chancy of Wesley Chapel, FL, and Brianna Brecht of Edgewood, MD; two sisters, Margaret Sirmans of Columbia, SC, Gladys Chancy Tucker of Eutawville, SC; three brothers, Charlie Chancy, Jr of Eutawville, SC, Jerry (Alma) Chancy of Goose Creek, SC and George Chancy of Bowman, SC; 15 grandchildren, Keontray, Miajah (Deondre), Gabriel, Xavier, Shi’ajah, Troi’ana, Kaniyah, Troy Jr, Zykima, Trealdarrius, Kimani, Foreva, Tyler, Tavon and Treasure; two great-grandchildren, Arielle and Amir; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, Dallas Cowboys Nation and friends.
