“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have
kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of
righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give
me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also
that love his appearing.” - II Timothy 4:7-8
John Rhodes, the son of the late Mr. John Booker T. Robinson
and Julia Mae Rhodes, was born on September 21, 1971, in
Orangeburg, South Carolina. He entered into eternal rest on
Sunday, February 18, 2024, at Piedmont Medical Center in
Rock Hill, South Carolina after an extended illness, where he
was surrounded by loved ones.
At an early age, he joined Red Hill Baptist Church where
he was a member until relocating. John was educated in the
public schools of Elloree, South Carolina, and was a proud
member of the graduating class of 1989.
John attended the J.B. Hunt training program where he
obtained his CDL at the age of 19, following in his father’s
footsteps. John was a professional truck driver for over 25
years. It was there, at the beginning of his trucking career, that
he became well-known as “Cheeze”. He became employed at
Halls of Cross Trucking, which he described as the best years
of his trucking career. He was an experienced driver and could
drive anything on 18 wheels. He pulled dry vans, containers,
rock buckets, scrap metal, cars, and cement. Driving was one
of his greatest passions. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers
fan. Cheeze was preceded in death by his parents and two
sisters, Betty Robinson Perry and Rebecca Rhodes.
Cheeze will be missed by all who knew him. He leaves to cherish
his precious memories: the mother of his children, Tammi
(Shawn) Jones of Fort Mill, SC; four children, Phillip Mack,
Jr., of Eutawville, SC, Anyshia K. Doctor of Fort Mill, SC,
Julissa Rhodes of Columbia, SC, and Diamond Rhodes of Fort
Mill, SC; six loving grandchildren, Eternity “Muffin” McNear
reared in the home, Shakai Mack of Dallas, TX, Amiyah
Nikole Johns of Killeen, TX, Tristain and Trenton Mack of
Jackson, MS, and Alexia C. Brown of Fort Mill, SC; one sister,
Dorthea Cookie Abreu of Clarksville, TN; a caring mother-
in-law, Christine Doctor of Eutawville, SC; one brother-in-
law, Richard (Christine) Doctor of North Charleston, SC; a
special cousin, Michael Doctor; special friends, Shawn Jones,
Wilie Taylor, and Wendy Williams; four grand pups, Lucky,
Juice, Butter and Dracco; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces,
nephews, cousins, and friends.
