Lula Mae’s Legacy 1938 ~ 2025
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that live His appearing.”
II Timothy 4:7-9
MRS. LULA MAE BOOKHARDT
When our Heavenly Father is on His journey, sometimes He chooses one of his children to walk with Him. On June 20, 2025, God chose Mrs. Lula Mae Bookhardt at her place of residence in Santee, South Carolina, and quietly closed her eyes and said, “Peace be thine”.
Mrs. Lula Mae Bookhardt began her start of a legacy in Bowman, Orangeburg County, South Carolina on October 8, 1938, and ended her legacy on June 20, 2025. Mrs. Lula Mae Bookhardt was the daughter of the late Jeff Brown and Lillie Brown.
Lula embarked upon her educational quest in the Orangeburg County Public School System. She was united in holy matrimony to the late David Bookhardt. Having been reared in a warm and Christian home, Lula sought spiritual guidance and enrichment at an early age and joined Mt. Olive AME Church.
Lula was preceded in death by her husband, David Bookhardt; three children, James Bookhardt, Barbara Jean Bookhardt, and Curtis (Mary) Bookhardt; three sisters, Jannie Goodwin, Susie Mae Clark, and Lizzie Keitt; and two brothers, Dannie Brown, and Romie Lee Brown.
Although Lula’s presence will be no more, she will always be remembered in our hearts for the love and kindness that she has always shown. Lula is survived by her loving children, Jeanette Lassiter, Eddie (Susie) Bookhardt, Diane Bookhart, Lillie Pearl Ravenell, Emma (Anthony) Ravenell, Lynn Bookhardt, Lavern (David) King, and Steven (Eboni) Bookhardt; one sister, Geneva (Richard) James; four brothers, Larry (Zadie) Brown, Charles (Sylvia) Brown, Walter (Rosa) Brown, and Jeff (Rose) Brown; forty-two grandchildren , fifty-eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
