Melissa Bowman

Mrs. Melissa Dingle Bowman, daughter of Wilhelmina F. Dingle and the late Frank Son Dingle, was born on February 17, 1943. She peacefully departed this life on Friday, June 26, 2026.

She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Son Dingle; her husband, James Bowman; two sons, Anthony Bowman and Darren Bowman; two brothers, William Dingle and Elias Dingle; and one grandson, Ciemoid Bryant.

Melissa graduated from Central High School in 1961, where she formed lifelong friendships and cherished memories. Following graduation, she moved to New York and earned her CNA certification and embarked on a career that perfectly reflected her compassionate spirit. Melissa devoted many years to caring for others in Brooklyn, New York, touching countless lives through her kindness, dedication, and gentle heart.

While in New York, Melissa married James Bowman, and together they were blessed with three sons: Phil, Anthony, and Darren. As a mother, Melissa was nurturing, strong, and deeply devoted to her family.

Melissa's home quickly became the heart of the family—a place filled with laughter, love, and delicious food. Known for her famous fish and chicken sandwiches, she had a gift for turning any gathering into a celebration. Her kitchen was her stage, and her meals brought people together in a special way.

Later, Melissa returned to South Carolina and continued her caregiving career at Berkeley Citizens in Moncks Corner until her retirement. Even after retiring, Melissa's calling to serve others never ended. She continued supporting families in need, offering comfort and care to those caring for sick loved ones.

In 1997, Melissa's family was extended with her beloved son, Jermaine Shelton Bowman, a precious blessing who brought her great joy and happiness.

A lifelong member of St. Matthew A.M.E. Church, Melissa's faith remained a guiding force throughout her life. She served faithfully as President of the Pastor's Aid Ministry until her health began to decline.

Melissa leaves to cherish her memory: her loving mother, Wilhelmina F. Dingle; two sons, James (Sandra) Bowman of Goose Creek, South Carolina, and Jermaine Bowman of Cross, South Carolina; two sisters, Lillian Dingle (Eddie) Johnson and Yvonne Dingle (Alphonso) Rogers; thirteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, all of whom will cherish her memory and miss her dearly.
