Moses Brown, Sr., 101 passed away on November 13, 2025, at his home. He was born on September 13,1924, in Cross, SC, to the late Freddie and Tenear Lee Brown. Moses was the second oldest among 15 siblings, which consisted of two boys and 13 girls. Following his father’s death, Moses remained devoted to his mother, Tenear Brown.

He received his education in the public schools of Berkeley County. At a young age, he learned the skills of farming and sharecropping. In 1947, Moses met and married his beloved wife, the late Annie G. Brown, with whom he raised nine children: seven girls and two boys. In 2006, Moses’ cherished Annie passed away after 59 years of marriage.

 Moses was a hard-working man. In addition to farming, he was employed at the Naval Weapons Station in Goose Creek, SC. He retired in 1984, after 35 years of service. After retirement, he continued to farm until a serious car accident in 2013.

He was dedicated to caring for his family, friends, and supporting his church. Moses was always a devoted family man and an exemplary citizen of Cross, SC. He was highly regarded in the community and took great pride in serving as his family’s patriarch.

 In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his late wife, Annie G. Brown, and children: Eartha Lee Spruill, Eddie Brown, Rebecca Brown, and Lilian Brown, two grandsons; Anthony Spruill and Timothy Meeks, one granddaughter; Neosha Fraiser, one brother, ten sisters, and two sons-in-law; Tommy Spruill and James Spruill.

 Moses is survived by his children: Jannie Mae Spruill of Cross, SC, Annie R. Cooper (Lavern) of Kingstree, SC, Moses Brown Jr. (Virginia) of Cross, SC, Delores Sweatman (Lawrence) of Cross, SC, and Ida Lee Meeks (Arthur) of Cross, SC, an adopted daughter; Pearlie President of Cross, SC, one daughter-in-law; Mary Brown of Ridgeville, SC, and three sisters; Levinua Ravenell, Dora Lee Anderson, and Susan Scott (Ron), all of Philadelphia, PA. He leaves a legacy of 24 grandchildren, 27 greatgrandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
