Virga Fuller Obituary

“Let my soul smile through my heart and my heart smile through my eyes, that I may scatter rich smiles in sad hearts.”

Virga Lee Fuller was born  in Eutawville, South Carolina to the late Joseph and Wilhelmina Fuller.  She grew up in Eutawville, where she gave her life to Christ and joined First Baptist Church at a young age. She was educated in the public schools there, and graduated from Roberts High School in 1968.  As a young adult, Virga moved to Mount Vernon, NY.  While there she strengthened family bonds and developed lifelong friendships.  It was during her years in the city that she became a mother to her beloved daughters, LaToya and Melissa. Eventually life and love of family led Virga back to her home in Eutawville, SC, where she raised her daughters in her childhood home along with her mother and father, until God called both of her parents home.

Throughout her life Virga worked in several administrative positions. She spent many years as the water clerk for the town of Santee, SC. It was there that she discovered her love for people and community, and most of all, a love of service.  She immersed herself in community events and activities, from pageants and parades to fundraisers and banquets, and soon became a beloved figure there. She later served the community with the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Department’s Community Service Unit from 2000 to her retirement in 2015. There she helped to develop and lead many volunteer and community-based programs. Most notably, the “R U OK”  initiative, where Virga called the senior citizens of Orangeburg County to check in on them, and simply ask, “Are you ok?’.  The care she showed to the senior community of Orangeburg County was not unlike the care she showed to her own family and friends.

Proverbs 31:25- She is clothed with strength and dignity;

…..but also a fabulous outfit, sharp heels, and matching jewelry. Virga was known as a fierce and stylish diva, hence the nickname, “Queen V.”  She was known as much for her fashion as she was for her voracious spirit and kind heart.  Never to be undone, she was rarely seen without a perfectly coordinated outfit and pair of heels. In her later years those heels may have been carried in her purse, posed by her chair, strung around her neck, but never without they would always be there.

Matthew 25:35 - ”for I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: “It has been said that food is love, and when it is served that way, your family and friends will feel it. Virga was someone who always cooked with love, and loved to serve home cooked meals to her family and friends. If asked, I’m sure anyone whom she has ever served a meal can immediately think of a favorite. Whether she served you a simple dish like her sweet ambrosia salad or her family’s favorites of red rice, greens, macaroni and cheese, or holiday stuffing, you could always count on leaving Miss V’s kitchen with a full stomach and a full heart.

A beloved daughter, sister, friend, aunt, mother and grandmother, Virga will be remembered for being sassy and spirited, fashionable and fun-loving, kind, caring, and an award worthy cook.  She will be missed by all who knew her and were touched by her.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Wilhelmina Fuller, father Deacon Joseph Fuller Sr., sister Lorraine Curry, brothers William Fuller Sr., Jeff Fuller, Bishop Jerry Fuller and Leroy Fuller; her sisters in love Melinda Fuller, Overseer Beverly Fuller, Donna Fuller, Wanna Mae Fuller and her dear sister Flora Mae Fuller-Washington.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, LaToya Fuller, Charlotte, NC and Melissa Fuller, Rock Hill, SC; grandson, Michael Jefferson, Jr. of Charlotte, NC;  Great-grandson, Joseph Michael Jefferson of Charlotte,  NC; Great nephew, Johan Jayce Graves and Great-niece, Bria Mae Graves , Rock Hill, SC; three brothers, Norman Fuller of Bronx, NY, Ralph (Annie) Fuller of Charlotte, NC, Fred (Cheryl) Fuller of Raleigh, NC; Niece & nephew, raised alongside her as siblings, William (Cheryl) Fuller, Jr. and Louise (Kenneth) Hayes; Brother- in- law, Samuel Curry of Mobile, AL; Sister-in-love, Alma Fuller-Ravenell of Vance, SC and doggie best friend, JoJo. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, God-children and special friends near and dear to her heart.

Virga will be severely missed by a host of other relatives, neighbors, community leaders, Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Dept., First Baptist Church and Renewed Faith Christian Center ministries.

Matthew 5: 16 “…let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
